Burleigh, Jacob Make Class 2A All-State Team

There are more 2A teams in the state of Louisiana than there are spots on the all-state team, but there were still two local players that earned a spot.

Notre Dame’s Patrick Burleigh and Loreauville’s JeDan Jacob were stars for their teams this year, and the LSWA acknowledged both of them with one of the most prestigious honors a high school player can earn.

Burleigh led the Pioneers the last two seasons in tackles, and he led them to another undefeated regular season in 2016 as well. He was the undisputed leader of one of the best defenses in the state, and it was hard to ignore the impact he had during his senior season.

Jacob was a menace at receiver. His 4.54 40-yard dash time and 43 inch vertical made him one of the best athletes on the field, no matter who the opponent was, and he provided Loreauville’s freshman quarterback, Zy Alexander, a consistent target week in and week out. There were a lot of studs in the state at the 2A level, but he locked down a spot at receiver in a very deep pool of talent.

Three other local products deserve some credit for earning honorable mention as well: Loreauville WR Bryson Broussard, Opelousas Catholic lineman Spencer Gardner and Catholic High-New Iberia LB Stephen Russell. Well done.

Remember these names. You might see them at the college level, making big plays on Saturdays and making their families, and cities, proud.
