Week Three of the high school football season brings about some blockbuster matchups, including Acadiana, Carencro, LHS, Teurlings and Notre Dame.

The defending 5A State Champs are coming off a shutout loss to Ponchatoula on the road, so expect the Acadiana Wreckin' Rams to play a particularly bruising (and angry) brand of football against Carencro this week. Carencro's Offensive Coordinator, former LSU star and New England Patriot Kevin Faulk, has the Bears' offense geared up for another effective season though, with QB Gabe Duffy and RB Tyreik Cambell leading the show in the backfield. Carencro is 2-0, and remember, they won District 3-5A last year in the regular season before heading down to 4A this year. This game has drama written all over it, can't you just feel it?

Speaking of drama, Notre Dame and Teurlings Catholic are poised to take the top off of Acadiana. Both teams registered solid victories to start off the season (Teurlings with wins over Calvary Baptist and Archbishop Shaw, Notre Dame defeated LaGrange and Breaux Bridge), but something has to give here.

The Pios' defense looks absolutely rugged. After shutting down the STM Cougars in the jamboree, Notre Dame sufficiently put the clamps on the Gators and Tigers as well. They won't be facing a normal offensive outfit though. Cole Kelley and the Rebels can flatout ball.

Not only does Teurlings sport a top tier passing game with Kelley, who is bound for the Arkansas Razorbacks in the SEC, at the helm, they also possess a massive offensive line that helped plow the way to victory in both matchups. The Rebs can beat you in the trenches or in a drag race. Notre Dame will make this game as physical as can be, but they better make sure to finish the task if they get the lead. Teurlings has been known to pull off some late game dramatics.

To round things out in a packed week of action (why can I only pick three games?), Lafayette High School invites Woodlawn (BR) into town for our game of the week on News Talk 96.5 KPEL. The Mighty Lions' offense wasn't exactly high octane last year, but through two victories this season they've racked up 87 points.

Running Backs Keshawn Young and Trevin Kelly can take it to the house on any carry, and WR Jaelyn Price proved how dangerous he can be with two TD's in the return game (returns of 80 and 50+ yards) last week. If they're offense can tow the line, the defense can certainly finish the job. Middle Linebacker James Brown is about as good as it gets at the high school level, and he leads a group of hard-hitting, hyper-aggressive workaholics that will challenge the physicality of any unit. Woodlawn is no cupcake. The chinstraps better be buckled for this one.

With the Ragin' Cajuns on an off week, the stage is all set for high school football to shine in Week Three. Get your way out to the stadium this Friday, or you might miss one of the best games all season.
