The Lafayette High Mighty Lions even their record at 1-1 on Friday night as they defeated the still winless Opelousas High Tigers 49-15 at Mighty Lion Stadium.

Senior QB Miguel Reyes saw his first action of the regular season and made his presence felt early on with a one-yard rushing touchdown in the 1st quarter and a two-yard rushing touchdown with 7:56 to go in the second quarter.

Sophomore Brennan Broussard, who switches out with Reyes in Lafayette's two-quarterback system, as a pass to TE Hunter Merry put the Mighty Lions up 21-0 with 6:04 to go in the 2nd Quarter.

LHS would score another quick touchdown as defender Davondrick Lewis picked off Tigers QB Kenny Frazier's pass and found himself in the end zone, putting his team up by four touchdowns, 28-0, a score that would hold till halftime.

In the 2nd half, Lafayette High picked up right where they left off, scoring three touchdowns in the 3rd Quarter. Two of those touchdowns came courtesy of RB Trey Davis; the other a fumble recovery in the end zone as LHS scored their second defensive TD of the game.

Down 49-0, Opelousas fought to not go scoreless. Two rushing TDs - one by Frazier and the other by FB Shawn Charles, kept the Tigers from being shutout. In the end, though, the Mighty Lions were victorious by a score of 49-15.

Up next for the Mighty Lions (1-1) is the Woodlawn-Baton Rouge Panthers (0-2), who are coming off losses to respected programs in Hahnville and Destrehan. Ian Auzenne (play-by-play) and Brandon Comeaux (color) will have the call Friday night at 7 p.m. on the home for Lafayette High Mighty Lion football, Newstalk 96.5 FM KPEL.
