As the 2nd Quarter began Friday night for the Mighty Lions, they found themselves riding a streak of 14 straight quarters without an offensive touchdown. That streak was broken with a bang as WR Canaan Leon took a fourth down pitch from QB Brennon Broussard and found fellow WR Koi Thomas wide open in the end zone to put them on the scoreboard for the first time that night.

One big problem, though - Sulphur had already built a 28-0 lead on its first four possessions en route to racking up a 69-24 victory over Lafayette High at Mighty Lion Stadium.

In building that 4-touchdown lead, the Golden Tors scored through the ground and the air - a rushing TD each for their backfield combo, Glen Willis and Jacoby Skinner, and two passing TDs from backup QB Morgan Clark to WR John Wayne Bourgeois and TE Christian Trahan.

But the streak-breaking touchdown sparked the Mighty Lions, for about a 10-minute period of the game. During that time, Broussard also launched another touchdown pass and Lane Perrin nailed a 43-yard field goal, cutting the lead to 28-17 at the half.

But, that's the closest the Mighty Lions would get as the Golden Tors rattled off three touchdowns coming out of the 2nd half, then scored three more in the 4th Quarter. RB Trey Davis would get the final touchdown of the night for LHS.

Up next for the Mighty Lions is the Sam Houston Broncos. You can listen to the game on the home of Lafayette High Mighty Lion football, Newstalk 96.5 FM KPEL. Kickoff is set for Friday at 7 PM on Senior Night at Mighty Lion Stadium. Ian Auzenne (play-by-play) and Brandon Comeaux (color) will have the call.
