Over his career, we've become accustomed to seeing senior RB Raymond Calais, Jr. put up great statistics. And, in Friday night's matchup featuring his Cecilia Bulldogs and the Comeaux Spartans, he did just that. But he wasn't the only Bulldog offensive player to put up great stats, and the defense stifled the Spartans new look offense.

The scoring began with 1:41 left in the 1st Quarter as Sr. QB Landon Roberts threw a beautiful deep pass to fellow senior Kenya Dartez on a 62-yard scoring play, which punctuated a 3-play drive. Dartez would eventually finish the game with 4 receptions for 110 yards and the touchdown.

The Bulldogs picked up the scoring in the 2nd Quarter, scoring on another quick drive - this one only one play long. Calais showcased his phenomenal speed by racing past the defense for a 51-yard touchdown to help make the score 14-0. Then, after a Bulldog interception set up Cecilia deep in Comeaux territory, Calais finished off another short drive with his second rushing TD of the game. The score, 21-0, would hold going into the half.

As the 3rd Quarter began, Calais picked up right where he left off. He added to his 153-yard first half rushing total by scoring another touchdown, this one on a 26-yard scamper to give his Bulldogs a 28-0 lead, which would eventually be the final score. Calais would finish with 228 yards and 3 TDs on 22 carries - in only three quarters of play.

Also on the night, Roberts completed 5 of 9 passes with 113 yards through the air and 1 TD.

Defensively, the Bulldogs were dominant, holding in check the Spartans spread offense for most of the night. Comeaux playmaker Tanarious Achan was able to showcase his unique skills early on, but once Cecilia's defense figured out how to slow him down, the Spartan offense came to a crashing halt as well. Jr. QB Brett Dotson saw more and more pressure as the game went along, as the running game for the Spartans struggled more and more against the massive defensive front of the Bulldogs. And, give the linebackers and secondary credit as well, as they shut down Spartan receivers and playmakers from making more out of their catches in the short passing game.

There was some bad news for Cecilia and their fans, though, as reserve sophomore QB Cody Morgan suffered a broken collarbone towards the end of the game, according to school officials.

The Bulldogs begin the season 1-0 and will take on the 0-1 Northside Vikings on the road next week. Meanwhile, the Spartans will play their home opener against the 0-1 Westgate Tigers., the first of a 3-game homestand for Comeaux.
