Every once in a while, you run across a star player who shines even brighter off the field. Those are the players you try to hold on to.

Shane Vallot was the bully on the block on the offensive line for the Comeaux Spartans, but he's also a scholar in the classroom and one of the most positive influences in the locker room. He had a lot of colleges vying for his commitment to play college football, but he followed his heart and stayed at home.

Deciding where you want to go to college is a huge decision in a young man's life, and Vallot and his family ended up keeping things within the city limits.

There's a lot to like about Vallot. Not only was he an All-District performer in District 3-5A, he's a top class wrestler and one of the most likeable athletes you will ever come across. The Ragin' Cajuns picked up a commitment from a star local player, and they added to their lockerroom with a class act off the field.

Vallot was part of a senior class for Comeaux that made a lot of noise last season. He might be a nice guy with the pads off, but he's a monster in the trenches.

At 6'2" and 295 lbs, he has the build to compete at the Division-I level. He could see the field early in his career for Louisiana, and he certainly isn't going to shy away from a little extra hard work to get where he wants to be.

Vallot will put ink to paper at 6:00 pm on National Signing Day to make things official with Louisiana, which will be the last step in a major pickup for the Ragin' Cajuns.

He's not the only local product to join the Ragin' Cajuns either. He joins Acadiana's Bralen Trahan and Andre Landry, along with Catholic High-New Iberia's Ziyon Hill, on campus next year. The local connection is heating up for Louisiana, and Vallot is the exact type of character you want on your roster.
